1...Prune suckers from fruit trees, lilacs, maple and magnolia

2...Cut all the faded blooms from daffodils and tulips to prevent seed formation

3...After danger of frost cannas, geraniums, begonias and other annual bedding plants can be planted out

4...Mulch any strawberry bed with salt hay

5...Finish planting new evergreens, dormant trees and shrubs

6...Make your first planting of gladiolus, then repeat every two to three weeks for continuous flowers

7.Be sure to thoroughly water any newly planted perennials or shrubs

8.Tie down any loose clematis or climbing roses with raffia

9.Plant seeds of asters, cornflower, larkspur, and Shirley poppies outdoors now

10.Prepare beds for dahlia tubers

11.For larger peony flowers, pick off side buds, leaving only the terminal buds

12.Begin staking tall growing perennials

13.Dahlias can be planted now up until the middle of June

14.It is safe to move most houseplants outdoors, sink pots into the ground if possible

15.When roses are in full leaf, begin your weekly spray program

That there are three basic kinds of petunias: multifloras, grandifloras and doubles.
Grandifloras have large flowers, from 3-4 inches wide and sometimes ruffled petals.

Multifloras are smaller flowered, but the plants are literally covered with more flowers.

Doubles are beautiful petunias with layers and layers of petals, almost resembling carnations.
